In part two of my interview with Danny Sullivan (@dannysullivan), Google Public Liaison of Search, we go into what it is like being at Google. Does his access at Google change how he sees things from the perspective as a publisher?
I asked a question I had for a long time; does working at Google with access to Google Search intel give you an advantage that is beyond what Google can communicate to the industry and would help an SEO rank even better in Google search.
We talked about some of the challenges he had, he called it an imperfect understanding of search was an issue for him. Specifically he had a hard time learning the Google dialog of search, including learning the acronyms, the vocabulary used and who at Google has answers to questions quickly enough.
He then shared some of the bigger things he was able to help with while at Google. Including this Google Webmaster Conference Product Summit, the before and after search commands and the communication around the Google Core updates.
I then asked him what annoys him about the SEO community and he shared some examples. Including meta description length debate, subdomains vs subfolders debate, 301s vs 302s debate, and essentially when Google tries to help the SEO community and the community thinks Google is trying to lie to them.
He then shares the one piece of advice he would give SEOs now that he knows what he knows.
It was super special for me to interview Danny, since he is someone I highly respect and look up to.
