A new bug with Google Business Profiles and Google Maps is placing some businesses' Google Maps pins in the middle of the ocean. This is reportedly happening for some service area businesses that do not list their address publicly on their Google local listings.
Dipa Gandhi first reported the bug and wrote on LinkedIn, "Seems like there's new GBP bug! For service area businesses, Google Maps is showing the correct service area served, however, the profile is showing a PIN marker in the middle of the ocean."
She posted some screenshots "showing the difference" of how it should work versus how it is working. She added, "and it's definitely not a "one-off" situation. Seeing this on many profiles!"
A few others confirmed seeing this bug as well in the comments on the LinkedIn post.
We saw something similar years ago when Google was dropping businesses in the middle of America for some reason.
I assume Google will address this bug? But it is not clear if Google is even aware of it yet.
