Google is testing showing citation cards at the bottom of AI Overview responses on desktop, instead of on the right side. Google tested variations of this at least twice before, once in March of 2026 and before that in September 2025.
This one was spotted by Glenn Gabe and it is a nicer variation of the earlier tests. He posted screenshots on X and wrote, "I'm in an AIO test where the citations are stacked at the bottom of the answer on desktop. The right side citation bar is gone. And you can click show all to see a full list of citations at the bottom."

You can then expand to show more of these citation links:

But I am not sure, without clicking on the Show more button (unless Google automatically expanded them - which they can do), then there are no citation cards, just the link icons in the AI response.)

A good compromise - maybe show the citation cards both on the right and on the bottom. :)
