On Google's home page today, pretty much globally around the world, is a Doodle, special Google logo, for the 125th birthday of Frederick Banting. The logo shows a picture of Sir Frederick Banting and an insulin bottle in the place of the second O in the Google logo. It also shows the human digestive track.

Frederick Grant Banting was born on November 14, 1891 in Alliston, Ontario, Canada and passed on February 21, 1941, at the young age of 49 in Near Musgrave Harbour, Dominion of Newfoundland. He was "noted as the first person to use insulin on humans," says Wikipedia.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1923 and the Flavelle Medal in 1931. Also the the Canadian government gave him a lifetime annuity to work on his research. In 1934 he was knighted by King George V.
