This is somewhat new, based on how you look at it. It seems similar to the image carousel from 2015 but with less information. It is just images that slide for photo related queries.
Sergey Alakov posted it on Twitter and his blog. Here is what it looks like as an animated GIF:
This now seems to be live in the mobile results as I am also able to replicate it.
