Google is now sending out Google Business Profile email notifications when its spam systems detect a spike in spam reviews on your Business Profile. The email says, "Protecting your Business Profile from spam reviews," and adds, "Google has detected a spike in spam reviews on your Business Profile and removed them so they do not affect your Google rating."
Antoine Cameron posted a screenshot of this email on LinkedIn and wrote, "Google is proactively detecting spikes in spam reviews, removing them before they impact ratings, and temporarily pausing new reviews while the threat is addressed."
Here is a screenshot of the email:
The email reads:
Protecting your Business Profile from spam reviewsGoogle has detected a spike in spam reviews on your Business Profile and removed them so they do not affect your Google rating.
To protect your Business Profile, new ratings, reviews, and other user contributions have been temporarily paused. Google will lift this pause once the risk is mitigated, typically within a few days.
No action is required on your part, but if you believe legitimate reviews have been removed by mistake you can request a review.
You can also edit your Business Profile information at any time, or get alerts about new reviews by enabling email notifications.
Amy Toman commented saying, "I received a question about this from a former client. They had opened a new location, and they're always very good about getting a steady stream of reviews. I think Google questioned their methods and slapped this on. I think this filter, along with many of the new ones, needs to be refined a bit."
