Arunava Chakraborty shared a photo on Twitter of an old Google t-shirt, probably from the very early days of Google. It has the old logo but also says "word of mouth" which Google was the absolute kings of - word of mouth marketing. Google, back in the days, was known to not spend money on advertising and yet capture the hearts and adoption of searchers and users very rapidly simply based on being better.
Now of course Google spends a significant amount of money on advertising.
