Google seems to have removed the Follow button from the desktop search results page, but it is still on the mobile search results page. The follow button lets you quickly follow a Search profile for the individual or brand you searched for.
Damien Andell informed me of this with his post on X where he said, "Google has removed the follow button on Google search desktop, still available on mobile on Knowledge panels, which allowed users to follow the "search profile" of a publisher or creator."
I tried it out myself and it is true - here is Lily Ray's search results page, notice the "Search profile" button on desktop:
But on mobile it does have the follow button - it is not on desktop:
