Google: Still A Lot To Do To Fully Roll Out Mobile First Indexing

Google Mobile First Indexing

As many of you know, Google has been active at rolling out the mobile-first indexing process to more and more sites in their index. We stopped keeping track of the notifications after what we documented the fourth batch of mobile-first indexing notifications. Now, some folks want to know when Google's whole index will be crawled in a mobile-first indexing manner.

John Mueller said on Twitter that they do not release their timeline on this publicly and that they "still a *lot* to do until we get there."

I believe at some points, Google communicated that it could take a few years to be fully indexing the web in a mobile-first manner. I am not sure if that has changed or if Google would ever index the web full as a mobile device.

But for now, I know many sites that did not get the notification yet and I suspect we have some way to go.
