Google Webmaster Meetup Live

Back in November, Gary Illyes from Google said they are changing the name of the Google Dance, removing the dance part but hosting more in-person Google events worldwide. Last night at the last-minute Google NYC event put together by John Mueller, John confirmed this but added the events will be more focused towards webmasters and not SEOs.

He said SEOs know mostly everything by now and Google wants to communicate more and help webmasters and developers learn more. Truth is, I always felt SEOs were a mix breed of webmasters and developers (and also marketers) but who get Google. I guess Google is saying here, they want to reach out to those webmasters who do not get Google and communicate more with them.

SEOs are not invited - well, that is probably a stretch for me to say. I assume some SEOs will still be attending these events.

But John said to expect more of these events around the world hosted by Google, probably in remote Google offices. I suspect, but I am not sure, that they will be short presentations by Googlers, followed by an hour or two of question and answer. And then some light refreshments served.

Gary doesn't like to dance - so no dancing. :)
