Back in 2014, Google's in the news box started showing non-Google News sites. But over time, I thought the In The News box was renamed to Top Stories, but I was wrong.

According to a post on Twitter by RankRanger, the In The News box showed in addition to the Top Stories box. And in fact, the In The News box is almost fully phased out as of December 6th.

This really shouldn't impact many of you - in fact, I doubt anyone will notice. What I did think people would notice was the Top Stories algorithm tweak.

It likely has only to do with the new desktop UI that Google rolled out.
