Google: App Indexing Ranking Boost Still Valid Regardless Of AMP

Last week we broke some very important news, that AMP pages will trump app deep link results in the Google mobile search results.

That means users of this site that search in Google who have our app, since we have both AMP pages and native iOS and Android apps that deployed App Indexing, will currently and now for the foreseeable future will be served the AMP page. They will not be able to click from the mobile search results and get to a specific article on this site. At least that is what Google told us and said is how it is going to be for the future.

So I asked the Googlers, specifically Mariya Moeva about this. I asked what happens to the app indexing ranking boost Google promised us less than a year ago?

She responded "the ranking boosts remain for (1) installed app and (2) great user engagement through API, regardless of AMP."

I am not sure how that works? Will my AMP pages get that ranking boost instead? When will Google ever surface the content in my app and link to that content directly to my app if AMP pages will trump app deep link results in mobile search?

Is Google going to show deep links from the native search app? I doubt it. So what is going on here?

Google told me on Search Engine Land that they "have found that AMP helps us deliver" on a better user experience "because it is consistently fast and reliable." Google added, "AMP uses 10x less data than a non-AMP page." Google told us that "people really like AMP" and are "more likely to click on a result when it’s presented in AMP format versus non-AMP."

So again, is Google going to give my AMP pages the app indexing ranking boost? I mean that makes no sense. So what is going on?
