Did Google Say 46% Of Searches Have Local Intent?

Google Local Intent

Supposedly there was a local event at the main Google headquarters in Mountain View, California the other day and at that event a Googler said that 46% of all queries have local intent. I do trust the source but all I have is a tweet from this SEO on this stat.

Nick Wilsdon posted on Twitter:

46% does seem super high - don't you think? I know mobile queries have more local intent than desktop queries, and I know mobile queries are continuing to rise. So maybe almost half of searches on Google having local intent is not too far stretched? Also, it may be how Google is defining local intent?

What do you think?
