David Szetela

This is part of the say something nice about an SEO/SEM series - feel free to nominate someone over here.

David Szetela is 63 years old and lives in Fort Myers Beach, Florida with his wife Wils Murphy. The two have three children, David had this to tell me about them "I am in complete awe of their personalities and accomplishments. I’m privileged to even know them."

David Szetela is a name pretty much everyone in our industry has heard of. He is all over the industry, speaking at events, publishing content, producing podcasts and videos. He is super generous with his time, he is smart, confident and creative when it comes to the tactics he recommends. He was also awarded in the top 25 PPC experts by PPC Heros.

There are really not many people in our space that has given so much of themselves to our industry, espesially the PPC space, as David has.

Mike Freedman nominated David and wrote:

He was the co-author of a great book on search marketing and the host of the longest running and best podcast on paid search, PPC Rock Stars. He is a search pioneer and a kind, funny and effective teacher of all aspects of paid search. David was almost a fragrance scientist before he caught the online search obsession we all share.

David Szetela Bio: David is Owner and CEO of digital advertising agency FMB Media, and one of the world's best-known experts in online advertising. A former Apple Computer executive and serial entrepreneur, David's career has been dedicated to helping companies of all sizes maximize revenue and profit.

Favorite thing about the SEM community? I love the vibrancy of the SEO/SEM community. There’s so much positive energy. I think it stems partially from the fact that the trade we practice is just so enjoyable. That we’re also in the sweet spot of business activity worldwide is icing on the cake.

One piece of advice to the SEMs out there? Internalize the fact that our end goal is not rankings, link numbers, CTRs etc. Our main goal should be to ensure our actions are always designed to deliver increasing profitable sales for our clients. Also: check your fun-o-meter regularly. If you stop loving your work it’s time to make a change.

Favorite things in general? We live a stone’s throw from the Gulf of Mexico, so activities include beachy things like hiking and biking. Travel is a particular love, and I’m grateful that my career has given me the opportunity to trek the world, sharing exotic meals with my family and industry friends.

What you want to be known for in the SEM space? I picture my role, and that of my industry-expert buddies, as constantly pushing the industry forward by sharing new information, strategies and techniques. I want to be remembered as a competent producer and curator of the best PPC-specific content. Oh one more thing: I want to be known for having hosted one of the longest-running podcasts in our space: PPC Rockstars celebrates its 10-year anniversary on May 3 2018!
