Information Retrieval Google

Dawn Anderson, an SEO who likes to listen to professors and PhDs give lectures about how search works, posted a poll asking if the SEO community thinks awareness of IR (information retrieval) is important or not for SEOs. Most SEOs said it is important.

She posted the poll on Twitter and it received over 500 responses. The question was "How important do you think awareness of IR (information retrieval) is for SEO's."

  • 43% said it is "very important."
  • 35% said it is "important."
  • 13% said it is "not important."
  • 9% said it is "irrelevant to SEO."

Here is the tweet:

Information retrieval is the science of searching for information in a document, searching for documents themselves, and also searching for the metadata that describes data, and for databases of texts, images or sounds.

I don't think it hurts for SEOs to understand how some of the basics behind search work?
