You Can Now Opt Out Of Trending Searches In The Google Search App

Back in April, Google began showing trending searches in the autocomplete search box within the Google Search App. It is cool, but tapping in the search box to see trending searches, is not always that relevant and many searchers didn't want to see it.

So Google, a week or so ago, announced quietly in an ongoing Google Web Search Help thread that you can now opt out of these trending searches. To do so, you must be on the Google Search App versions 6.1+. Then go to Google Now, click on the menu (three-bar icon) and select Settings. From settings choose Autocomplete and then toggle off the "Show trending searches."

Here is what trending looks like in the search box:

Finally! Was so sick and tired of the trending items. If I wanna know what's going on I'll do my own search... But kudos to Google for finally letting us delete the trending items and prevent them from coming back in the settings! Wooo Hooo!

I've done this. In fact... Turned everything off. Force stop. Reboot. Everything I could think and it's still there. Everytime I swipe for the notification bar to come down THAT stupid search/trending news comes first taking up almost the whole screen. I call it stupid because it's pointless since I can access it from the home button on my moto z play. Plus.. It's white. Everything on my phone is dark which is better for my eyes. If it weren't so sensitive to a swipe I could live with it but it's been a huge hinderence for screen functionality. I'm thinking the only way to get rid of it is to root this ?

Turn this damn thing off. Don't want what is trending on Google. Take it off & let people choose to activate it if they want it.

And I went to Microsoft to try to learn how to remove it from my iPad, no help there either, Google won't say how to anyone so far. We're stuck.

Every time I open chrome for about the last week or so it flashes a "trending now" message. This needs to GO. I'm about to change browsers and homepage from Google if I can't get this fixed.

this is an annoying addition to my small ipad and it should never be assumed that ordinary users of google, a very good company, has decided to just install a complteley adolesant thing such as this without a tool to define or eliminate it from equipment not purchased from their company. In the world we are accustomed to...it is offensive! thanx , contol alt delete....i am asking apple to make this something to be warned against...hope the stock of GOOGLE reflects this mistake.

I think so too. When I want to get rid of something there are at least (5) steps, & no DELETE OPTION. I don't want an annoying thing to become a PROJECT. ADD DELETE OPTION. Please

Trending is a way of Google using up your data space. We never asked for it and most of us don't want it so why should we put up with it. Google is a search engine that is supposed to work for us, not against us as the customer. It should be a case of opting in to trending NOT opting out. Maureen Palmer

You can get rid of it..you just have to know how and be patient about it..keep trying and you'll get it and believe me I tried it for a long time I and and I finally got it.. it's off now it was so simple I could kick myself..!!! It had nothing to do with Google fault it was mine.. I had Google blocked.. go to your settings and make sure it's not blocked on your app phone keep looking around and then go back to Google to settings and then you'll find general keep doing it have patience and you'll get it hope it helps.. if not be patient and keep trying cuz that's how I did it!! I found in my apps on my phone that it was blocked that's why I could not find it on Google site on setting cuz I had it somehow blocked on my app so I kept looking on my setting on my phone clicking on things and I went back to Google site I was able to get to general and and clicked the autocomplete off .. that will help you delete the treading

Its simple. Here's how you get rid of those pesky Trending Searches on Google. Especially for those using Desktop or Laptop and you wish to get rid of that pesky Trending searches in Google. Follow this steps. Step 1 : First go to Google.com Step 2 : Look towards the Bottom Right Corner. Youd see 3 links. Privacy, Terms & Settings. Step 3 : Click on the Settings link. And a Popup message box will appear. Step 4 : Click on Search Settings. This will open the Search Settings page. Step 5 : In the Search Settings page, Search for Auto-complete with Trending Searches. Step 6 : Click on the DO NOT SHOW popular searches radio button. Step 7 : Scroll down and then click on Save button. THATS IT !! YOURE done, No more Trending Searches shit.

Follow this steps. PLEASE DO TAKE NOTE, this will NOT work if you're using for an Android Phone or for Mobile version of Google App. You gotta follow a completely different method altogether if is a Mobile version. This would work on any standard internet browser running on any PC / LAPTOP. Running Windows. Not sure if its the same on Other OS.
