Tape Measure

I can honestly tell you, I have personally not looked at my backlink profiles in years. Not in Google Search Console links report, not in third party tools, no where. But I believe that this is a big part of SEO consulting services and many SEOs spend a nice amount of time tracking changes to backlink profiles.

Christoph Cemper, who is in the business of measuring and monitoring link profiles, posted a Twitter poll I thought was interesting. It only has 100+ votes, so I wanted to drive more interest there.

He asks "How do you measure the growth or decline of your backlink profile? What's YOUR most efficient way?"

So far, here are the results:

  • 43% - Why would I do that?
  • 23% - With a SEO metric (which)
  • 20% - Looking at charts
  • 14% - My agency tells me
