I have seen numerous reports of Google showing very weird search results, or lack there of, followed by a message that reads "Hmm... the results for your search don't seem very relevant." You can zoom in on the picture above by clicking on it to enlarge.
It just seems like some weird bug, a possible plugin that is impacting the Google search results or something else. But it is too wide spread to be a weird plugin, so maybe it is some weird Google bug or feature?
Here are more screen shots of this from @SEMRush, @Callmenicholi and @sirmichaelby but more are seeing this.

Update: Google confirmed this is a real thing but it is a bit buggy:
This is a narrow experiment focused on times when our systems detect there is little relevant content available on the web for the given query. It appears to be overtriggering. We will investigate and adjust.

Also in terms of the ads, we'll ensure they don't appear by default as part of the adjustment. We're investigating why that happened; it wasn't intended.
