Google Moving & Closing Support Forums

Google Forums

We saw it happen with a number of support forums already, including the Google News forums. But now it looks like all Google support forums are moving to the new platform. The interesting part is they are not migrating content from the old to the new platform, instead, they are making the old platform read only and opening up the new platform for new topics.

Google has moved their forum platform several times since I started writing here in 2003. We got this change, the 2015 redesign, again in 2015 the new platform, 2012 change, in 2011 a major change and in 2018.

I posted about it on Twitter and it got some fun responses. Google posted in many of the forums notices of when they are moving to the new platform. Each have their own dates and migration timelines and some forums, like the Turkish webmaster forums are closing completely.

Here is the message in the Google Webmaster Forums:

February 28, 2019 NOTICE

Please be aware that the current Webmasters Forum platform will migrate some time early in the week of March 4th, 2019 to https://support.google.com/webmasters/community (this URL is not currently available yet). When that happens, the current platform will not allow asking new questions, and it will become read-only a few days after. Starting on the day of the platform migration, we recommend that you participate mostly in the new platform.

Thanks for your understanding.

John Mueller responded on Twitter and a fun and entertaining conversation kicked off.

I should note - this change may impact the coverage here while I find a new procedure to tracking threads and important discussions. I will get it down but it might take a week or so.
