Google announced they made a bunch of updates to both the iOS and Android version of the Google Maps apps. The major changes include adding integration with Uber, the ability to download offline maps, lane by lane navigation help, more local search filters, and more.

Google Maps Android Version 8.0 Updates:
Improvements to offline maps:
- Save offline maps in multiple ways when you are logged into the app (by typing or saying ‘ok maps’, via a place info sheet, and via the person icon)
- View and manage your existing offline maps, including renaming, updating, and deleting
Improvements to navigation:
- Lane guidance (available in the US, Canada, and Japan only)
- View alternate routes while in navigation mode
- Remaining time, remaining distance & arrival time are now all displayed in the bottom info bar
Search filters for Local:
- Filter local search results by rating (globally)
- Filter local search results by open now, price range, your circles, and more (US only)
Transit info:
- Uber integration in directions: If you have the Uber app installed, you can compare your ride with transit and walking directions in some cities. If you choose the Uber option, the Uber app will open with just one tap.

Search for your device contacts in Maps:
- Search for friends, family, and co-workers that have an address associated with their name
Search by voice:
- Speak your search instead of typing it by tapping the microphone in the search box
Saving lat/long locations:
- Drop a pin and save the location by starring the dropped pin
Search filters for Local:
- Filter local search results by rating (globally)
- Filter local search results by open now, price range, your circles, and more (US only)
Transit info:
- Updated transit station cards
