Google: Focused Search Updates Daily & Core Updates Every Other Month

Google Focused Updates

When Google confirmed the Google update from the weekend, Danny Sullivan explained that it was a "core update" that happens only several times per year, versus the Google statement around Google doing updates several times per day. Those daily updates are called "focused updates."

Here is how Danny put it, "We do some type of focused update nearly daily. A broad core algorithm update happens several times per year."

I asked Danny to clarify this and he said:

I suspect focused updates are more UX, UI and even things like HTTPS, page level, interstitials, the upcoming page speed, mobile friendly update and more. The core, which now includes Panda, is done less often I guess.

What does this mean to you? Focused vs core updates?
