Google AdWords Payday Loans Ban Now Goes Into Effect?

In may we reported Google AdWords is banning payday loans and other high interest and risky loans from advertising on AdWords. But July 13, 2016, the date it would go live, came and past and we still saw plenty of payday loan ads showing up.

Google told Search Engine Land late last week that they were delayed a bit in launching the ban, but it did go into effect about a week late. They even added that it can takes several weeks to fully roll out.

So for now, you may or may not see ads with payday loans and other high risk loan offers.

This is what I saw on July 20th for a search on [payday loans]:

Payday Loan Ads July 20

This is what I saw today in one browser:

Payday Loan Ads July 25

I should note, in another browser, I saw no ads at all. I did see local listings for payday loan companies nearby.

Google did release a help document on this policy change last week when they said they began rolling out the change.
