Google has updated its location asset requirements for Google Ads. Google said it made these updates to "improve terminology, enhance readability, and include troubleshooting steps applicable to advertisers using location assets."
"This update aims to provide clearer information to advertisers and does not change enforcement of this policy," Google added.
So lets dig in to the changes on thie location asset requirements document and compare it to the older version and we can see that Google added sections for tobacco, recreational drugs, restricted targeting in Personalized advertising and removed misleading content, unavailable offers, unclear relevance and trademarks.
While both versions include a section for the "Editorial" policy (which covers clarity, spelling, spacing, capitalization, etc.), the new version adds explicit troubleshooting steps. It now instructs advertisers that if a location asset is disapproved for capitalization, punctuation, or symbols, they must fix the issue directly in their Google Business Profile (GBP). They are instructed to edit the business name to standard title case without unnecessary symbols, and then unlink and re-link the GBP profile in Google Ads to sync the changes.
The older document still contained lingering references to the older Google Ads terminology, noting how to fix a "disapproved ad or extension". The new version scrubs the word "extension," updating the language to reflect the newer system by instructing users how to "fix a disapproved ad or appeal a policy decision" and consistently referring to them as "assets".
