Google Spews 500 Server Errors This Morning

This morning, tons of people on social networks like Twitter, in the Google Web Search Help forum (only link to one example of many), reported Google was not loading and instead was returning a server error, 500 code.

A 500 Internal Server Error is a generic error message, given when an unexpected condition was encountered and no more specific message is suitable.

Here is what the error looked like to searchers:

The errors seem to be resolved but they did last some time. I've never seen Google search down for that long before, at least not in the past 10 years.

Yes, there other products may have issues but not search.
