Google Changes Maps OneBox Design

There are a few Google Maps Help threads with reports of changes to the maps OneBox design found in Google's web results. Mike Blumenthal documented these changes and I wanted to share them with you as well.

For example, search for [General Patent Corporation International 10901], you will see a new look for the Maps OneBox:

Google Maps OneBox Design

The main change is that clicking on the OneBox result doesn't take you to the business owner's web site. It now takes you to the Google Places Page for that business owner. This is because Google is placing the web listing above the OneBox result.

The other main changes include:

  • The search result for the OneBox match shows above the OneBox map now.
  • The "More info" link has been renamed to "Place page"
  • Reviews don't show unless they meet certain criteria
  • A maps ballon/marker shows near business name outside of the map

I personally like that the search result is now at the top, above the map. But I am not sure about the click behavior on the map itself. As a searcher, it makes sense to me to take you to the map or places page. I guess.
