Over the weekend Google began testing a new design for the search results. A nice number of people are seeing the new design test, although I am not.
R Edward @ rocknrolla.com emailed me screen shots over the weekend of the design. Here is a picture of the search results page:

I should note, on this test, the Google home page is missing the search button and the I'm feeling lucky button.
Here is a video of someone using the new design:
So far, most people I know do not like the grayed out version of Google.
Forum discussion at Google Blogoscoped Forums and WebmasterWorld.
Update: It is now official, more details at over here.

Just like to say i really like the black bar design. It finishes the top of the page very well. I like the contrast between the black and white. It has a mobile phone interface feel. Keep it up.

Hey, the layout for Google June 30, 2011 is super clean. I LOVE IT! As for the black bar, it confused and annoyed me a little at first, but it's beginning to grow on me. Also, I got to thinking, everything I get from Google that I truly value--email, online docs, instant searches--it's all FREE for me. Why should I crab about something as trivial as a small black bar on the top of the page? It''s not as if they plastered images and ads all over the page like some sites do. (Of course, an option button somewhere to select from various color schemes might be nice too.) Anyway, hang in there Google. I still think you're one of the coolest companies on the planet in every sense of the word....
