Google AdWords Now With Domains In Titles

Ten days ago, I received a tip from a reader that Google was testing domain names in the title of the AdWords ads. We posted the tip at Search Engine Land and then it went quiet. But now many many more people are seeing the test, where Google is placing the ads domain name at the end of the title portion of the ad.

Here is a picture from Nilaye Thakrar of Workopolis was surprised to see his ad with the domain name in the title, when he specifically did not put his domain name there.

Here is a picture of how he saw his ad with the domain name in the title:

Here is what I see, without any change to the ad:

I have seen a recent increase in questions about why Google is doing this via email, Twitter and forums. So I guess Google is ramping up this test.

I don't see a difference in the two images?

The domain name in the title may help some advertisers. Let us hope that Google don't charge extra for this.

I wonder if this is only for .com domain names or all? I don't see how much it would help advertisers.

Hi I think its all realted to reinforcing brand images for the bigger players. It means the ptential clicker just has one line to read to get all the info they need Also I see no downside so lets have it sooner rather than later regards

I'm assuming these domain names will only appear on PPC ads above the natural results as depending on the domain name length there won't be room to do this on the ads on the right hand side.

It's a never ending change for Google. Is this because of the Farmers Update, or the JCP fiasco? I don't know - but I am trying to gather my thoughts here (and please please comment if I am off the mark - I just want to understand!!!)
