Google Jonas Salk Logo

On the 100th anniversary of Jonas Salk's birthday, Google has a special logo, aka Doodle, to remember him. Jonas Salk was the first to discover and create a successful polio vaccine.

On April 12, 1955, news of his successful vaccine broke and he was labeled a "miracle worker" for curing the epidemic and saving countless lives. In 1952 polio counted for 58,000 cases in that year alone with 3,145 people dying from it and 21,269 were left with mild to disabling paralysis, with most being children.

The Google logo has Dr. Jonas Salk standing around with kids celebrating and enjoying life around him. Many of those kids have Doctor Salk to thank.
