Google's John Mueller said in a webmaster hangout video that Google's spam teams take it super serious when a web site is taken over by another one in the search results. If you see that happen, Google wants to jump on those issues and tackle them quickly.

John said at the 58:24 mark into the video that you can even email or direct message him on Twitter if you see this happening. He said "When when we do get alerted of issues like that, where some other website takes over essentially the the search rankings for for existing websites. And that's something that the team takes very seriously."

Here is the transcript:

When when we do get alerted of issues like that, where some other website takes over essentially the the search rankings for for existing websites. And that's something that the team takes very seriously.

And they work very hard to figure out what are the signals here that tell us that this is not the main move or this is not the same owner. But essentially that tells us this is something that we should be ignoring or maybe even further saying well this is something that we should be picking up as a spam signal rather than as kind of a quality signal for the website.

Generally what what I would do in a case like that where you're really seeing the whole website being replaced is this maybe just send it to me directly. So you could do that directly by email or through Twitter.

I've only seen this with site hacks but I guess it can happen other ways as well?
