Google Mobile Search App Links Offers Open Web Page Button

It has been some time since we talked about Google App Indexing but John Lincoln spotted an interesting change for mobile search that brings up app indexing results on Android in Google. Now, by default, Google will link to the app indexed page (assuming there is no AMP page) on mobile search but Google is testing showing "open on" the .com version.

So in the case John shared on Twitter it by default links to the LinkedIn app but it also adds a big button at the bottom of the search result snippet to "open on linkedin.com" as opposed to the app.

FYI - that is not a picture of John Lincoln, at least the one in that LinkedIn profile, nor the one who reported it.

Of course, this makes me sad - why not open it in the app if the user installed the app and uses the app?

This is better than Google deciding on their own to serve AMP before app indexing in these cases. Google is giving the searcher the option here but still.

I can't replicate this on iOS but John did this on Android.
