Google: You Don't Have To Rush Into Progression Web Apps (PWA)

Google Mobile Pwa

PWAs, progressive web apps, is a Google protocol that helps make richer mobile web pages that act like mobile apps but they are not native iOS or Android apps.

For the past few months, Gary Illyes from Google has been toying with me to make a PWA version of this site. But since I have awesome native apps for iOS and Android (download them!) making a PWA version doesn't make much sense at this point, in my opinion.

PWAs do work well with AMP, so that is something to consider.

But yesterday, Gary Illyes was being serious with Duane Forrester on Twitter and told him there is no reason to rush into PWAs. He wrote, "I think people should know what it is and evaluate whether it makes sense for them, but I wouldn't rush into it."

Yes, evaluate it - Gary made me have a serious discussion about PWAs versus native apps here and PWAs are good in many cases, but if you can build mobile apps and do something more useful with them - then it is something to think about.
