Google News Algorithm

With the new Google News, they didn't just drop the standout tag and editors pick but it seems like the direct method to subscribe to Google News via RSS and Google News keyword searches is gone. There are still ways to subscribe, but the buttons seem to be gone in the new design.

I do not see any way to subscribe to an RSS feed on any Google News search, nor do I see a way to make a Google Alert from the Google News screen. The most logical place to put it is in the new "share" or "follow" buttons you see on the right side of your searches on Google News:

Google News Drops Rss Subscribe

Danny Sullivan of Google wrote on Twitter that he will look into it and see what comes up. Here are those tweets:

In the older interface, there was an RSS feed link in the footer to use. My existing RSS feeds do work and if you use Feedly, you can still subscribe to Google News searches within their platform. I assume Google News will find a place to bring back the RSS links to their users.

FYI - in November, Google switched all of their RSS feeds for Google News to a new URL structure breaking a ton of feeds in the process.
