Google announced several new ad features yesterday but in that announcement finally confirmed what many suspected, that in the US and 10 other countries, mobile searches are more frequent than desktop searches. Specifically, Google is seeing more mobile searches happen on a daily basis in these countries than they see desktop searches.

Google wrote:

In fact, more Google searches take place on mobile devices than on computers in 10 countries including the US and Japan.

For many sites, you've been seeing the same trend.

This is a big stat for Google to share because (1) they have a harder time monetizing mobile searchers and (2) this is the trend and you need to think "mobile first" and desktop second. :)

Again, many have suspected mobile searches in Google surpassed desktop even a year or so ago, but this is the first time Google has said this on record.
