Google: 30% Of First Page Search Results Contain HTTPS URLs

google broken httpsHere are more Google HTTPS tidbits from my SMX coverage last week. Did you know that Google has shared data saying only 10% of the web pages out there are over HTTPS? Did you also know that 30% of the first page searches results contain one or more HTTPS results?

Google's Gary Illyes said this on stage at SMX East last Thursday. He wanted to show that there is some what of a correlation between more relevant web pages and HTTPS URLs. He is saying Google tends to rank HTTPS URLs on the first page more often as a ratio to the number of pages over HTTPS.

Of course, now Google says it is a ranking factor.

Here is one of a trillion examples:

Google Https 3of10

But a search for [shoes] for me returned zero HTTPS results.

This post was pre-written and scheduled to be posted today. FYI, I am offline today, so if Google does a Penguin update - I won't get to it until Monday.
