Google Updates Authorship Patent: Here's What's Different

Oct 22, 2012 - 8:45 am 7 by

Google AuthorBrian Ussery posted on Google+ a tip that the US Patent Office has released a newer version of the Google patent on Google Authorship. This is named Authentication of a Contributor of Online Content # 20120265755.

Now, Bill Slawski summarized the first one back in April, he named Google's Comment Patents and How Pages' Web Rankings Might Be Influenced by Commentors' Reputations.

So what are the differences between this new updated one and the original one? Brian explains:

  • Reputation score is based at least in part on reviews of the online content item that have been provided by one or more authors
  • Ranking for the author based at least in part on the reputation score for the author and reputation scores of one or more authors who provided the reviews
  • Ranking is weighted according to a status level of the one or more authors who provided the reviews.

This is really some weekend reading. So when you have a chance, print out Authentication of a Contributor of Online Content # 20120265755 and read it over the weekend.
