Fili Wiese

This is part of the say something nice about an SEO/SEM series - feel free to nominate someone over here.

Fili Wiese lives in Berlin, Germany, although native to Dutch, with his two kids; a 7 year old boy and 4 year old girl. Fili Wiese might be most well known for being a former Googler who worked in the search quality team but to many SEOs these days, he is known as an international SEO whiz.

Fili is constantly sharing his know-how on blogs, social media and he travels the world speaking at conferences far and near. He is well known for speaking about penalty recoveries, white hat SEO, and even partnered up with another former Googler, Kaspar, to build SearchBrothers.com.

He received a bunch of nominations and I wanted to share those with you. The first four are anonymous and the last one is from Tom H:

Recently I sat in a advanced technical SEO workshop presented by Fili and his insights were simply awesome. I learned so much and he has been very supportive to assist me in better understanding how Google works and how to do SEO. As an ex-Google engineer he certainly has the experience, knows what he is talking about and is passionate to share it.

Fili is one of those rare people that have the knowledge, the skill to put that knowledge in practice, and the ability to mentor other people with it. I've personally learned a lot from him and still look up to him to this day!

Like Bob Rains said once, in a room full of smart SEO people who know what they're doing Fili still stands out as the smartest of all. It's not just that he knows his SEO. Given his Google Search engineering background that's almost a given. But he's also helping people, not just his clients. When I look for technical best practice like on https migration or GSC setup, Fili's advice is all over the place. See https://searchengineland.com/moving-https-dont-miss-unique-opportunity-283546 or https://searchengineland.com/seo-101-url-versions-add-google-search-console-282463 What he writes does check out 100%.

See some of his other publications like https://online.marketing/guide/linkbuilding/ https://online.marketing/guide/screaming-frog-in-google-cloud/ https://online.marketing/guide/https/

Fili is simply put a really GOOD SEO.

Brilliant search data analytical mind. Saved my site or my a** when uncovering a major spider trap but that's another story. Just watched him speak at World Gaming Expo in Monaco. Wow, really wow!

I've worked with Fili for many years. He never ceases to amaze me with his technical SEO expertise and grounded, down-to-earth approach. Few others in his line of work can investigate backlinks in the billions (not just millions). He never stops helping the industry either, e.g. https://twitter.com/filiwiese/status/928985207218298880. Definitely the authority when it comes to technical issues and he's got actual Google Search experience to boot. You can't top that - best of the best.

Fili Wiese Bio: Fili Wiese is a renowned technical SEO expert, ex-Google engineer and was a senior technical lead in the Google Search Quality team. At SearchBrothers.com he offers SEO consulting services with SEO audits, SEO workshops and successfully recovers websites from Google penalties.

Favorite thing about the SEM community? I really love how dynamic, creative and on the forefront of the internet the SEO community can be. Even when I was working at Google, I always enjoyed talking to and working with other marketers to move the web forward. I am also someone who can appreciate finding the flaws, bugs and challenges in a system to make it better in the long term, and also there the SEO community has contributed a lot. For me SEO is about continuously updating your perceptions and ideas, pushing the boundaries, trying new things and ultimately improve the user experience for everyone on the planet.

One piece of advice to the SEOs out there? If you are new to SEO, don't be shy and learn by actively participating in online SEO communities and help others. This was also one of the most fun things I did when I worked at Google, helping webmasters in the official Google webmaster forums. It can be a great eye-opener to see and understand which problems website owners run into.

Favorite things in general? I enjoy technology, science fiction, domaining, programming, reading (including very much this website), scuba diving, inline skating, helping my clients with their SEO efforts and common sense.

What you want to be known for in the SEO space? I am a technical and international SEO expert, focused on business-driven SEO, with a lot of experience in solving Google penalties and technical SEO issues. While working at Google I worked on tackling web spam related issues, was a senior technical lead for several markets and developed a number of internal tools to speed up and/or improve the penalization process. In addition, during my time in Google Search Quality I defined and maintained the global web spam penalty policies, was part of the reconsideration team and trained a large number of my fellow Google Search Quality team members in tackling web spam. For my contributions I received many internal Google awards and peer recognition awards. I really enjoyed my time at Google and the team there is awesome!

Since I left Google I have been working together with Kaspar Szymanski, a fellow ex-Googler, at SearchBrothers offering SEO consulting to clients around the world, improve their visibility in Google organic search results and help them get more business while at the same time improve the experience for Google users. I also regularly speak at online marketing related conferences, mainly in Europe and the US.
