Search Engine Roundtable Stories:

  • SES NY 2010 Live Blogging Schedule
SES New York is a week from today and we will be providing live blogging coverage of the event - yet again. Every year I say I will retire from doing it, but then I continue to do it. Heh. In any event, I always enlist a great team of volunteer bloggers to help me with the coverage. The volunteers include: Sheara Goldenthal of PromediacorpBrian Ussery of Beussery.comAnnie Cushing of Find and ConvertAvi Wilensky of
  • Why The SEO Industry Is Special
I have been part of the SEO industry for a pretty long time now. The thing is, I really don't offer SEO services, but yet, I still write about the industry, cover the news and go to the industry gatherings. The question I am asked about this is why? Why bother if you don't sell SEO? I always come back to the industry and how special it is. There is something about the people in
  • Google Providing SEO Support For Muti-Regional Web Sites
JohnMu from Google posted a blog post named Working with multi-regional websites. The post goes over many of the SEO implications behind making multiple web sites all targeting different regions around the world. John discusses URL structures, hosting, domains, using Webmaster Tools and much more. If you ever had to deal with a multi-regional web site before, this post is something you should read. It does not however fully cover multi-lingual issues, but a post
  • Google Hungary Shows Italy's Colors On Hungary's National Day
Reported via the Google Web Search Help forums, Google Hungry's web site yesterday was sporting a logo for Hungary's National Day, which was on March 15th. The Google Doodle reportedly had the wrong logo. Here is the Google Doodle as shown on Google Hungary's web site yesterday: As you can see, the colors in this cockade is green to white to red, from the inside out. But the Hungarian cockade is red to white to
  • Warning: Google My Maps Bug Can Impact Your Maps
Google Maps Guide, Cecelia, created a Google Maps Help thread warning users not to edit their Google My Maps. The specific issue is with editing the Place Details in the My Maps. If you do edit it now, it may impact the rest of your information on your map. Cecelia said: We are aware of a temporary technical issue with My Maps. Our teams are working hard to resolve this issue. Until everything is running
  • Facebook.com Beats Out Google.com In Web Visitors This Week
Hitwise reports that Facebook.com surpassed Google.com in visits to become the most visited website for the week ending in March 13, 2010. It is not the first time this has happened, on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day as well as the weekend of March 6th and 7th Facebook.com surpassed Google.com as well. It is important to note, that this only is Google.com traffic. It does not include Gmail, Google News, and Google's
  • Ask Sponsored Listings Stops Sending Referrer Data
Ask Sponsored Listings recently launched a new platform which is managed by what they called Pureleads. Ask advertisers have been receiving emails about the change in the past week or so. One savvy advertiser, Jerry Nordstrom, posted a thread at Search Engine Watch Forums, digging into the changes. The most significant change is that Ask will stop sending referrer data from clicks on their ads. That means, you really won't know where your clicks are
