26% Say They Would Pay For A Yahoo Directory Listing

Yahoo DirectoryOver the course of almost nine years, I've covered the Yahoo Directory here and there. Over the years we've asked you guys if it is worth buying for $299 and the answer has been shifting over the years to no.

In 2006, people said the directory link from Yahoo was worth the money, then in 2008 it was less worth the money and then more and more signs came out that it probably wasn't worth the money.

So we ran a poll a few months ago asking if you would still buy an Yahoo Directory listing.

26% said you would, but a whopping 52% said you would not. The rest of you were not sure if you would or would not buy the Yahoo Directory link.

Yahoo Directory Poll

Honestly, I am surprised the 52% number isn't higher.

Please read my poll disclosure policy before jumping to any scientific conclusions.

I had a Yahoo listing for 2 of my websites but this year i have decided not to renew, with the new Google Algo Updates i would say there are not any directory listings that are worth paying for anymore. After all isn't a directory listing a paid link which is exactly the type of link Penguin penalizes!

not exactly to my knowledge we can purchase links as an advertisement which is what a directory is. Yahoo is not worth it any more because Google does not give it the value it once did. I still use paid directories and still make it past penguin and panda but i dont use the crappy low quality ones and only the big dawgs. I skipped yahoo this year though i find botw gives more punch to be honest.

Yahoo directory listing is not worth paying, it is good for listing our site and use paid yahoo directories.

I was looking at this the other day with a client. Yahoo! wanted £225 for six months (a special price reduced from £300). He said he would only pay £125 and they agreed, so we're testing it to see what kind of response it brings. In the first week, we've recorded one visit to the website from it - and that was me testing. Telephone tracking is impossible, so it's hard to get any measurement. I suspect by the time we've run it a few weeks the conclusion will be that it was a waste of money.

I've stopped paying for Yahoo directory submissions about 3 years ago, It's just not worth it anymore. Back in 1998 Yahoo directory listings were driving a lot of traffic :)

I agree with you Joe. Google dont want paid link for SEO. But Ads link is ok with them as they dont count that link on SEO.

at current time yahoo listing is hugely overpriced, no way to use it anymore. also no any noticeable benefits from that listing (except few positions up in bing)
