politicsI am currently traveling and yesterday being New Year's Day was incredibly slow with story selection, I decided to schedule some polls today to keep this site alive.

In late October, I polled the SEO industry asking them what was their political party that they felt closest to. Well after hundreds of responses, I figured I share the results.

In short, SEOs are mixed when it comes to their political parties. 40% are democrats and 40% are republicans and 10% are libertarian. Here is the break down:

SEO Political Affiliation Poll

Honestly, I am a bit surprised. I would have thought SEOs being more tech influenced would be more democratic. But I guess I was wrong.

Please see our poll disclosure policy.

Thanks for the article. Libertarians and LIO Fellows have played key roles in web and PC development. For info on people using voluntary Libertarian tools on similar and other issues worldwide, please see the non-partisan Libertarian International Organization @ http://www.Libertarian-International.org ....

Pretty much a microcosm of real life. Doesn't surprise me.

I wouldn't be surprised, most of us are small business owners. I think it would be wrong to assume a technology bias. Younger people are more likely to favor things like gay marriage and the legalization of marijuana, but also free markets, free trade, low taxes (especially Internet taxes), and things like entitlement reform. They're essentially libertarian, and the western US has a strong libertarian history as well, which doesn't make it likely for a west coast technophile to be on the right or the left. Some may care more about social issues and self identify with the left, some may care more about fiscal issues and self identify with the right, most probably would like better choices regardless and would probably identify themselves as libertarian if anyone actually sat down and cross examined them on the issues.

Working as a self employed SEO person I do not understand the democrat section being so high. SEO folks should be libertarian minded as they are most often self employed, running their own businesses and creating their own successes. Being entrepreneurial includes a natural tendency towards free markets and free movement of goods and services. That goes against anything either democrats or republicans stand for these days.
