Google Officially Testing Tabbed Sitelinks

Google is testing a new format for Sitelinks. We received official confirmation from Google on this test at Search Engine Land.

The new sitelinks format gives you several categories of Sitelinks in a tabbed format. Many are calling this Tab Sitelinks.

Here is a picture from the Warrior Forum:

Google Tab Sitelinks

I personally cannot replicate it but I wonder if this clutters the interface more than it is useful? Shouldn't Google be able to figure out which types of Sitelinks the searcher wants and just show it to them as opposed to giving the user so many options?

Thanks for sharing this. I agree with you, I think this may provide for too much clutter and show fewer search results. I hope they find a more effective way to accomplish the same goal.

Yes, Barry, I agree.

google keeps limiting the time it takes for a visitor to browse the site and than classifies the visitor as a bounce because the visitor did not browse the site further. 20/20 ?

This makes us a big headache while Google adding tabs to it site links and increasing the chances of higher bounce rate and exit rates.. Which would probably make a site to look for more serious problems of showing the sitelinks.

These sitelinks will only appear for strong brand searches. I wouldn't worry about this getting in the way of competitive keywords to be honest. I can't see any impact on SEOs from this update.

Of course because they want to lock in the visitors but Google forgets they are just a "jump rope" and thats all they are ever going to be..
