Complaints: Google Maps Listings Removed From Organic Results

Google Places LogoI've bee noticing a slight uptick in complaints about Google Places results not showing up in organic searches on Google.com.

There are three threads at the Google Places Help forums with complaints. They all include business owners complaining that since a week or so ago, doing searches on Google no longer triggers their business listing from showing up in the map results on web search.

One business owner said, "my Google places has gone from Google search, it was always in 2nd place, now there is not even a dot."

Jay from Google replied telling the business owner to read the known issues page but honestly, all it says is:

If you added or updated your listing and you're unable to find it when doing a search, there's nothing to worry about. In most cases, you should be able to find your listing by performing a search for [your business name in your city, zip code]. If you just added your listing, it can take up to 24 hours for your listing to show up on Google.

Keep in mind that when you make changes to your listing, it may shift that balance a bit. Your listing's placement in search results will vary, but in the long run, having a correct, comprehensive, and up-to-date listing is the most effective way to ensure the best possible ranking. Learn more about search results and ranking on Google.

I am not sure how wide spread this issue is or if it is specific to some sites. But I do not think it is related to this known issue. Maybe Google added a known issue that I do not see yet.

I had my Google Places account suspended a few weeks ago. Their initial response was that they had a problem with two out of dozens of listings. However, instead of dealing with the problem listings, they zapped the entire account. Listings have been fixed and now waiting for their 2nd response. Sucks that they'd zap an entire account rather than deal with individual listings. :(

There could be many reasons for the listings missing from the results. I actually think it is very possible that the three cases be totally different. As mentioned below, some of the reasons include: - suspension - We currently do not support the location bug However, my guess (about at least one of the cases) is that the problem is caused by the bug that followed the "Pending review" one. Whoever made changes on their listing while in Pending status, got punished and removed from the top results. Google has said to one of my clients that they reviewed the problem and it is fixed, so the listings should return their previous position by the next Google Update. Regarding the case where there is not even a dot, I suppose the problem could be either a suspension, or a "purgatory"-zed listing :) Greetings, Nyagoslav

We manage multiple Google Places listings for our clients. Since July 18th they are all missing data. Contribution to the help thread by Google is minimal.  At the same time this is happening, Google have launched AdWords Express, allowing AdWords to point to Places listings.  Why anyone would adopt this form of SEM with the plethora of Places bugs and missing data eludes me.

Yes, it is happening and without any apparent reasons of guideline violations.  This particular issue is but one of many since July 18th.  I have listings where recent changes made for new business addresses have been verified, show correctly in the dashboard, (see listing on Google Maps) but are in fact, not yet updated as published.  The originals are still published.  It's my opinion, that Google has delayed updated indexing as they are preparing to launch Google Plus in places for SMB's.  I mean, does anyone really believe that the new "stripped down" version of places is anything other than a preset for what's on the way right around the corner?

Hectic Barry when I saw the title I almost thought u were trying to say that place listings were nog longer displayed in the SERP of Google itself and could only be found on maps.google.com or places.google.com.

Google Places has effectively shut me down in my local area unless I do Boost Ads. I lived with 30-80 hits a day, most from my places listing. 2 days after the lauch of Boost ads, I am nowhere to be found. Doors will close soon due to change

Certainly..., A major reason why google places listing are quite convincing is the 'Google' major current market standing.
