Google Panda 2.5.2Google has done at least two minor updates to the Panda 2.5 update that I know of.

The first was around October 9th or so and now one, confirmed by Google's Matt Cutts, the night of October 13th.

Matt Cutts tweeted a confirmation:

Panda Matt Cutts update tweet

There has been a lot of chatter and discussion in the SEO community over the weekend on this minor Panda update. We have threads at WebmasterWorld, DigitalPoint Forums and Google Webmaster Help.

Here are some posts from the forums on this update:

My pandalized site got hit even worse with the minor update since the changes I made after the last one have not had time to fully filter through google results yet.

I noticed that my competitor had a slight recovery last night, I did not know it was because of this minor update then though.

Same here. was hit on sept27th, recovered fully on october 4th, had a spike of traffic on october 13th and was hit around 11m uk time on the 14th. 80% drop. Thanks google.

This is ridiculous.

Did you get hit or improve since the 13th?

Even I am hit over 70%. Well what to do now?

F-in criminals! Their earnings go through the roof and we get hit, 65%. Investigate and separate google from advertising.

I really don't mean to brag:  ask people I work with; every time my SEO stuff works I question WHY in a kinda paranoid way, but ... thus far each Panda update has made my numbers go UP. Can anyone address that kind of behavior?

10/17/2011 03:35 pm

My website up 60% since Late September Update - sweet!

My site went to the number 8 spot on October 14,  after 9 years of having the number one spot for my primary key word search on Google. My site is still an apppreciated quality site to people who visit it, so how does it make sense for Google to suddenly decide my site has lower value after 9 years? My repeat visitors now have to go to greater trouble to find my site again and fortunately they are. This Panda nonsense has only decreased my number of first time visitors. Hopefully my repeat visitors will see that Google is offing poorer search results now and go to Yahoo and Bing where I am still the number one site. Perhaps the Google board of directors needs to take a hard look at how quality Matt Cutts is after all these years!

10/17/2011 05:43 pm

Ya i had one page that dropped over 20 spots!!!!!

10/17/2011 06:39 pm

may I ask what your website is to glance at your SEO techniques?

10/17/2011 06:42 pm

That would be hard to do considering they are the largest most capitalized advertising company in the world who created the new game itself......

10/17/2011 09:19 pm

Yes Jeff, we can confirm this, every update so far has been a blessing.  It's hilarious to see people complaining when all Google is going for is "quality".  Why should some random Joe who has done carpentery his whole life and who writes about it on his blog and has no idea about social media or branding be ranking higher than our publishers who have spent days in the field and written a brilliantly summarized journalistic piece about the same?

10/17/2011 09:32 pm

Oh BTW will  you be joining us on our trip to the Caribbean?  Richard's yacht needed some unexpected repairs, so we will be taking my Panda instead.

10/17/2011 10:17 pm

Hey Barry!  It happen to me! Traffic dropped 80%. I'm shocked.  I read all I could possibly find about this update and here is the pattern of this Panda:

10/17/2011 10:59 pm

Yes my site down a lot  the 13 october,  and my site was not efected by any other panda update and has good content.  I will be out of work soon, if it don't jumb back. My god what a week

10/17/2011 11:29 pm

I mentioned this on my twitter #seohop the night of the 13th. Noticed a big move due to the panda marketing that seohop has been doing. Philadelphia seo

My site is loaded with the type of content very few people have taken the time to put together yet I was hit on the 14/th. I also notice that sites using my articles are still there.

10/18/2011 04:34 am

I have two sites, both targeting the same keywords.  For my main money phrase my SEOed to the hilts (all white hat, mostly traditional link building) site ranked at #1 and a site I originally built for users before I had even heard of SEO  at #2 and #3.   In the last weeks my previously #1 ranking site fell to #4 and my unoptimised site at #2 and #3 has jumped to #1 (and #2) Resulting change in Google traffic was a 103% increase between Oct 7 and Oct 10 and a 42% increase between Oct 12 and Oct 16. The site displaced from #1  saw a 20% increase in traffic from Google between Oct 7 and Oct 10 but a 17% decrease from Oct 12 and Oct 16.

10/18/2011 04:55 am

I have lost my site ranking but only the main keyword and rest of all keyword are in ranking so what to do

10/18/2011 07:31 am

ya same here, after 3 months when will start to get ranking, one panda update is coming and just we lost ranking So Sad Yar :(

10/18/2011 09:19 am

Because the 'random Joe' is taking an honest approach to ranking in Google as opposed to people like  you who attempt to manipulate search results with your 'brilliantly summarized journalistic piece(s)'. Your snotty, conceited post makes me want to throw up. It illustrates EVERYTHING that is wrong with the Google SERPS these days.

What was this latest update a tweak of? Thats what you guys who have been hit by it, should be asking and working out. Working out and fixing the problems google has with your sites is the only chance you have of getting back to where you ranked before! Personally, non of my site nor our clients site have been affected by this latest update nor any other panda updates because we dont use an spammy tactic, no black or grey hat seo, and only build quality content people will want to read, as well as build quality links which have been built with not just rankings in mind, but also with our visitors and potential new visitors in mind!

10/18/2011 09:41 am

yes it has hit my traffic, my traffic was lost around 66 % , what may be the update anybody know about the alogrithm

Plenty of sites are penalized and hit by panda2.5 minor updates. I just see the disadvantages of panda at all over the web but not getting any single article regarding of panda benefits.

10/18/2011 02:53 pm

Google updates are getting more and more, none content sites (spammers) will soon be hit again

10/18/2011 03:19 pm

This "minor" update hit us - the initial roll-out of Panda affected us, then we seemed to be clawing back some ground, but we seem to have lost around 15% of traffic with this latest incarnation of the panda beast - frustrating.

10/18/2011 05:58 pm

Hello,  my site is, and october 13th update was taken my 66 % traffic :(, any idea to recover from it?

10/18/2011 09:53 pm

I've no idea, just how long is a piece of string?

10/18/2011 09:55 pm

Avoiding comment spam might help...

10/19/2011 01:17 am

on one of my website, my traffic dropped 30% My other site, traffic grew by 1000%! I was suddenly ranked high for a trending keyword.

10/19/2011 03:48 am

Avoiding comment spam might help.. I lol'ed

10/19/2011 05:42 am

Yes i have lost my site ranking :(

10/19/2011 12:38 pm

My website http://1gold rank increased, might be because of it

10/19/2011 04:24 pm

Google is more focused on quality now, no more compromise and till date we havn't seen any 100% recovery from panda

10/19/2011 09:22 pm

My sites have not been affected by the recent update. But from my observations, this update was a total failure.

10/21/2011 07:20 pm

My main money making site's traffic dropped about 60% after this update. Panda is ostensibly about promoting user experience and quality content, and penalizing thin content sites with poor user experience. Yet my site has a low bounce rate, high time on site, hundreds of comments, and quality content. I see a competitor still sitting at #1 for a number of keywords in my niche, and they have mediocre content, no comments, no social shares, etc. Seems like kind of a failure to me, at least in my niche. My site got slammed, and I think it's one of the best in the niche. It certainly serves the users well, as evidenced by the comments, tweets, facebook likes, etc.

10/24/2011 01:32 pm

Matt, if I didn't know better I'd swear that was a pointed and personal remark. (Not being coy; I DO know better). And I seriously wasn't bragging. I really do wonder out loud why my results keep going UP. All I was saying was that thus far Panda has helped me and my clients, and I presume (since you guys don't tell us specifically what's up) that this is because our Philosophy on SEO is in line with what GOOG is trying to do. (Paranoia creeps back in): please don't gig me, oh Search-God-that-you-be

11/05/2011 08:38 pm

My high quality site was hit hard - dropped off first page to bottom of second, has lost 70% click through.  A site with the same topic who's just splashed some content on and hasn't updated since 2008 seems to be doing ok though. Some of my low quality garbage sites did better though.  So, from what I see, this update went in the wrong direction.

11/05/2011 10:28 pm

My small site, 6 years old got hit on the 13th.  Google search traffic had been 85% of my visits and that dropped by 70% overnight.  Traffic had been slowly but steadily increasing for 6 years until the 13th.

LOL. My blog, SEO 2.0, has been hit as well. At least 50% loss. I wonder why it wasn't low quality in the recent years and turned sour over night. I used to rank top 10 for [seo blog] for three years, now I'm below top 50. So apparently it was just a "minor" update.

12/12/2011 01:47 pm

From last few months we don't know what kinds of these updates are, I means there are no clues of what things are target via them...feeling helpless this time...

12/27/2011 07:59 am

I cant get any updates  here .Can anyone tell what is dat update ?

What is poor content anyway? Good content is a matter of opinion and in this case, the people who write the algorithm.

06/25/2012 12:33 pm

Yes, my website dropped by 80%. I thought Panda would never affect my site, it's a 100% unique, high quality content. Thanks Google for ruining my work of 5 years!
