Google Maps In Store Views Ads

Pegman Google Maps+Jeroen den Ridder sent me pictures of what appears to be ads within Google Maps Business Photos - you know, the instore views?

It came up for this specific view:

Now, I can't reproduce it, but he sent me a picture showing the ad overlay directly in the picture:

As you can see, there is this little icon that is overlaid on the picture. When you click on it, it is one of those AdWords local extension. Is this a browser bug or a feature? I am not sure.

He did share a screen that shows he has this ad extension live in his AdWords account:

I've never seen this on in-store business photos, have you?

Kaartpictogram is translated to map icon. My account shows this and i can choose from a list of 17 icons.

I saw this happen once, but was unable to reproduce it. Then again, I didn't try. I merely made mental note of it, but did not think twice of it. Now, if I do see it...

Here in Germany I recognized this feature many times before. I think, that it is not a bug. But sometimes it does not work very well...
