Google Labs LogoYesterday, Google announced they are shutting down Google Labs.

Google Labs is where many of the neat Google services and products were first introduced, including Google Suggest, which grew into Google Instant.

That being said, Google said that labs within products will continue to remain. So if you are using Gmail Labs, that will still remain. Google said, "we don't have any plans to change in-product experimentation channels like Gmail Labs or Maps Labs."

That being said, Google Labs will be missed by many Google enthusiasts.

Goodbye Google Labs!

Is the pagespeed test form staying live though? We find that really useful for checking on our developers skills.

However, the recent update coming in that, they're not going to shut it down. That means the lab feature will be remain there in Gmail and other Google products.

Why the heck are they keeping on closing one thing after the other? is there a Google + bubble?

Google Labs was awesome. Can't believe they're closing it down :-(  I was using one of the apps in Labs, Google Fast Flip, on a daily basis. So it's  sad to see this one go. My organization teaches speed reading and we used to recommend Google Fast Flip a lot as a great way to read online content more quickly. Now that it's gone, we are planning to create a similar, but better version of Fast Flip. Updates on the project for those interested will be posted here: http://www.irisreading.com/fastflip
