Google: Adult Web Sites Are Not Automatically Spammy Web Sites

Google Image Safe Search LockSome folks in the search space feel that adult sites, pornographic sites, are automatically considered to be spammy by Google. Truth is, while there is a ton of spam in those industries, not all adult sites are spammy.

Google's John Mueller said so in a Stack Exchange thread. He wrote:

Also, "adult" doesn't necessarily mean that it's spammy.

Google has given advice in the past on how to build quality adult sites. There was a time where many adult sites were penalized but Google reversed that penalty.

That being said, many adult sites are spammy because the adult industry is very competitive. But Google has been targeting that spam with their Spam algorithm.

I've been keeping an eye on the posts in the Webmaster Help Forums of people who were given "pure spam" penalties. A good number of those are adult sites. However, it seems that they are mostly sites that had no original content or thin affiliate sites.

Turnkey industry, I think Google look at that like spam (as with any turnkey) with new entries to the market, but obviously isn't spam. Loaded response that.

Talking about Google and porn, CNN has kept the headline "Model caught in Google porn storm" on their front page for DAYS now. Me thinks CNN is about to give Google a run for its money. Here is another not so flattering CNN headline "Google car: No steering wheel or brakes" Google: Driving is fun Sneaky videos of people (google glass) not fun Not adjusting on request nasty personal profiles in your search results: Not fun and now you are paying for it

Matt Cutts look-alike porn ranks very well especially when it is produced to look like a webmaster tools help video.
