Does Google AdSense Images Ads Earn You More Money?

A WebmasterWorld thread has a note from an AdSense publisher that Google has reached out to him and many other publishers that they should try the image ad units in AdSense.

This particular publisher received an alert from Google that "at least 50% of pages are opted out of image ads and advising that opted in earn more revenues."

The response from the AdSense publisher community was overwhelming positive on the image ad units. One publisher, Netmeg, said:

I'm absolutely convinced that turning image ads back on greatly contributed to the fact that I'm at 280% of last year's earnings (with two months to go) And the click through rate was nearly twice what it was for text ads.

But others may not be so convinced...

Got the same notice yesterday and turned on one image ad unit on one site only to test it with. In the past, image ads, not so good. we'll see. I highly suspect that the use of image ads is much more profitable for Google. I know, a shocker...

Checking back over the past 12 months over approx 40 million Ad Impressions, the CPC for image ads is 4.5 x text ads, but CTR averages 60% of text ads. All ads have always been enabled for text/image. But far fewer image ads delivered, and probably less relevant too.

In my case I think combination of adsense and text is better. I turned off my image ads after I read that text ads are better and my revenue almost dried up while my traffic had marginally increased. I advise people to try experiment first before making a decision and not based on what experts are saying. My blog is
