Google announced a major upgrade for Google Translate. I am personally very impressed.

The new features include:

  • New layout
  • Instant translation
  • Shows reading phonetically in English
  • Speaks English translation for you (i.e. text to speech)
  • Type phonetically also

Here is a video demonstrating the new features:

There are both compliments and anger about the change in the Google Translate Group.

I vote for the new "Instant translation" method. It is much faster to translate, while I'm chatting with an online friend who have a different language.
