Pi Day Google Doodle

The Google Doodle on the home page today on March 14th celebrates the 30th anniversary of Pi Day. The day is celebrated every year on March 14th (3.14). The day is dedicated to the mathematical constant. 30 years ago today is was recognized by physicist Larry Shaw.

The number π is a mathematical constant. Originally defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, it now has various equivalent definitions and appears in many formulas in all areas of mathematics and physics.

The Google Doodle has a pie. Why? Well because it is often celebrate with a slice of pie.

Google said "today's delectable Doodle - baked & built by award-winning pastry chef and creator of the Cronut® Dominique Ansel - pays homage to this well-rounded mathematical constant by representing the pi formula (circumference divided by diameter) using - what else - pie!"
