Grace Hopper PhotoToday is the 107th birthday of Grace Hopper, an New York City born computer scientist who is known for helping come up with the concept of computer languages. She was wrote the first compiler for a computer programming language and she was one of the first programmers on the Harvard Mark I computer.

Here work led to the development of COBOL, which was one of the first modern programming languages. She is also known for popularizing the term "debugging."

Oh and she was also a United States Navy Rear Admiral.

Grace Hopper was born on December 9, 1906 in New York City and died at the age of 85 on January 1, 1992 in Arlington, Virginia, she is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
