Google Shopping Removes Confederate Flags

Google Confederate Flags

Google has officially dropped the Confederate flag from their shopping search results.

If you go to Google Shopping and search for [confederate flag], Google will respond saying "Your search - confederate flag - did not match any shopping results."

There are searchers who are upset by this, because (a) they may believe in non-censorship, (b) they may want to buy one because of who they are or (c) they may want to buy them because they will be rare in the future and then sell it on eBay in a 100 years to make some money. :)

Google Shopping Removes Confederate Flags

The complaints are in this Google Web Search Help thread.

Google told Re/code "we have decided to remove content containing the Confederate flag from Google Shopping and Ads." Adding, "We have determined that the Confederate flag violates our Ads policies, which don’t allow content that’s generally perceived as expressing hate toward a particular group."

Google is not the only shopping search service to remove this item, so has Amazon, eBay and Etsy.

It is just a bit weird that Google would remove it, because it is Google.
